Puerto Vallarta - 4th time (Nov. 6 - 13, 2014)

What a crazy and long year it's been for me almost hard to believe another year is coming to an end!  This was only the second vacation of the year with the last one in D.C. in the early spring so we could try and catch the Cherry Blossoms.  Stayed there for a week and had some of the worst weather with a mix of snow, wind and rain.  This was long overdue after taking a supervisors job back in June I had been on six day work weeks with only one week without overtime.  My motto is work hard play harder!

The weekend before coming down to PV I went back to TX to see the family for a couple days and spend some much needed time with my grandparents and see my nephews as they are getting older and will be out of high school soon.  Weather in TX was perfect almost like San Diego and nothing like a little home cooking to make your stay more enjoyable.  Thanks Mom and Dad!

This trip to PV was different because we had extra rooms and we had a couple new comers heading down for this trip!  We love sharing the experience of one of the most relaxing places we vacation with great people and this was no different.  Trav was coming in last minute from D.C. and Amanda was coming in from San Diego.  We usually have Amanda dog/house sit for us while we run away for these trips but this time my mom and dad came out to dog/house sit and Amanda came down to PV..YEA!  Her and I are close and share a lot including the same birthday.  As we get older it's harder to find a great connection with people and I was fortunate enough to have some of my closest friends on this trip.

We arrived on Thursday late afternoon and Scott and Rohan were already relaxing in the villa!  The site of this place and the hospitality always puts the biggest smile on my face.  There is something about the known and having the essentials in place that make this trip worth repeating every year or every other year.  We had a new chef this year but who was amazing but everything else was the same!  The villa we stay at is perfect and overlooks Bandaras Bay and the views are to die for!  We did have a couple days of rain (sorry Trav and Amanda) but we made the most of it.  I have magazines dating back to June that I needed to catch up on and nothing better than catnaps on rainy days.

We took a day trip with Bob's Tours ($2,500 Mexican Pesos or $190 USD for 8 hours included guide and A/C van) over to Sayulita and even though it was raining we enjoyed the quaint little Mexican surfing/fishing village.  The guide told us the village has about 10,000 people and half of them are expats.  There are also a lot of wondering dogs cruising the streets.  The life there is slow and the cost of living seemed to relatively cheap making it ideal for foreigners that want to get out of the "rat race."  I envision retiring in a place like this and writing and relaxing and watching the days go by....at least a few months out of year!  I found out this time there a couple tequila distilleries about 30 minutes from PV and maybe next time we will go and tour one of those?

We ended up going into town on Sunday for dinner and to walk on the Malecon (walking street) and to cruise around a little bit.  I could not believe how many young kids were out so late on a school night.  We must have left to come back to the villa at 11 and people were still bustling around on the streets. PV is a a beautiful town and I don't think I will ever get tired of coming here but the real treat is the villa that we stay in and the hospitality we receive when we get there.

I love sharing this place with first timers!  I don't care how much you try to describe it to someone it just never does it justice.  As I wrap this up on the last day here I am not ready to start the grind of six day work weeks with overtime and back to the hassles of everyday life back in San Diego but such is life.  Work hard play harder! If anyone has any questions don't hesitate to ask....who knows in 10 or 15 years I hope to be here full time or at least a place like this!

In closing a good friend of mine sent me this link about Mexico and the way it's viewed and I have to share it with you....it's s written by Anthony Bourdaine link to blogpost
